Motor training – RYA Intermediate powerboat

24th October 2026 @ 9:00 am - 25th October 2026 @ 5:00 pm
£625 OR 50 Points

Refine your seamanship and develop confidence navigating at planing speed.

Our Intermediate Powerboat course is designed for members who already operate confidently in local waters and want to advance their skills. Building on the handling and core knowledge from Powerboat Level 2, this two‑day programme focuses on more precise boat control, higher‑speed navigation, and the practical techniques needed for structured coastal passages.

For sailors, the course offers a particularly effective way to strengthen navigation and pilotage skills. The speed and range of powerboats allows you to cover more miles in a day, giving you the opportunity to plan, execute and review multiple pilotage legs building experience faster.

Working at a low ratio with an experienced instructor, you’ll refine your boat handling, apply navigation at speed, and develop the judgement required to operate further afield with confidence and control.

What you’ll learn

–  How to plan and execute efficient coastal passages at planing speeds
–  Advanced pilotage techniques using charts, transits and electronic navigation
–  How to combine tidal data with weather forecasts and local effects to influence decision making
–  Precise boat handling skills at displacement and planing speeds
–  Structured methods for approaching unfamiliar harbours and anchorages
–  Managing busier or more complex waters with calm, informed choices
