About the role

The role is to lead and nurture the Membership Services and Communications team to provide the best experience for members resulting in the highest levels of membership satisfaction. You will maximise member retention levels and develop incremental revenue opportunities from the membership base. The team manages our members through proactive communication, service development and management of our event programme. Strong customer service and organisation skills are essential. You will ideally have some boating experience (pleasure or professional) but most importantly, will bring the drive and passion to make a measurable difference during this growth phase of the business.

responsibilities

You will build strong relationships with our members and provide high quality membership support. Working closely within the Sales team, you will ensure we meet our member contract renewal targets.

Reporting to the MD, your role will include:

• Manage the successful onboarding of new members; working with the sales team, map new member profiles, expectations/needs and proactively manage new joiner onboarding process to ensure early engagement
• Proactively monitor member account status to ensure that all members are receiving a great experience
• Oversee recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and managing the membership team as it grows to meet their personal and team objectives
• Create the culture and processes to achieve the company’s customer service goals, consistently improving NPS (Net Promoter Score) – CSAT (Customer Satisfaction), or other metrics
• Manage and develop the technologies and processes across a range of online platforms that run several key aspects of the business e.g. CRM, Website CMS, invoicing, social media, email as well as our own proprietary systems.
• Develop and grow incremental revenue opportunities with members
• Improve day-to-day efficiency and manage the cost to serve members
• Ensure regular member engagement through face to face and digital communications, boat shows and other events, social media and other channels.
• Act as the Voice of the Member across the organisation
• Manage and grow a successful programme of events and training opportunities for members
• Manage all bookings, marketing and member communications for our event programme
• As a key part of the senior team, contribute to the strategic direction, innovations and growth of the business

Skills and experience

You will have:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent leadership and management skills with the natural ability to motivate, prioritise and achieve team objectives
• Experience of developing complex and integrated customer service systems, tools and processes
• An innovator, who can spot opportunities for enhancing profitability
• Strong customer service background
• Good commercial experience in negotiation and valuation
• An interest and/or some experience in boating.

Next steps

To be considered for this role, you will need to be permanently settled within an easy daily commute to our office in Hamble. Our standard working hours are 8.30-5.30 (Mon-Fri) but we require some flexibility to work the occasional Saturday and longer day. We can also offer some flexibility in hours to suit your personal circumstances.

Salary £45 – 55k dependent on experience.

The role involves the management of our members and the coordination of our event programme so you’ll need strong customer service and organisation skills. For the right candidate we’ll tailor the level of responsibility to your experience, but you do need to be an articulate, logical and independent thinker who has a keen eye for detail. Our new team member will ideally have some boating experience (pleasure or professional) but most importantly, will bring the drive and passion to make a difference during this growth phase of the business.

• Build strong relationships with our membership and provide high quality customer support through assisting with and managing all enquiries
• Manage all bookings, marketing and member communications for our event programme
• Proactively monitor member account status to ensure that all members are receiving a great experience
• Assist with wider sales and marketing activity as required and appropriate, for example at boat shows and open days.
• Contribute to the broader development of the business.

Skills and experience

You will have:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent administration and organisational skills with the natural ability to prioritise within a multi-tasking environment.
• A high level of computer skills being comfortable working daily across a range of online platforms
• An exceptional eye for detail
• The ability to work well as part of a team and independently
• Good commercial experience in negotiation and valuation
• Strong customer service background
• Good commercial awareness
• An interest and/or some experience in boating.

Skills required: Yacht maintenance, RYA instructor, customer service

About you

We’d love to talk to you if you have skills in the following areas:

• Practical maintenance skills (ideally on boats or similar)
• RYA instructor qualifications (RYA cruising instructor Sail/Motor or higher)
• Customer service (dealing with customer issues of a practical nature on a daily basis)
• Boating (e.g. in a charter / RYA training centre environment).

About the role

Whatever your previous experience, you need to be able to think on your feet and have an appetite for hard work and identifying & resolving problems autonomously. You’ll need to demonstrate hands on technical maintenance skills on a daily basis and if you’re an RYA instructor we’ll also deploy you on the water delivering high quality bespoke tuition to our customers.

An exceptional work ethic, high standards, good communication & interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise busy workloads are key requirements for delivering in this role. We need someone to take complete ownership of their responsibilities and play an important role in continuing to grow the business.
