Round the Island Race
July 2 @ 9:00 am - July 4 @ 7:00 pm
The Round the Island Race is the biggest yacht race of the year, globally. Approximately 1,800 yachts, from small day-sailers to 100 foot multihulls, line up to race the 60 mile course around the Isle of Wight. Taking part lets you soak up the unique atmosphere created by this mass participation event, with so many sailors in one place, the tension of so many yachts around you and the multiple on-the-water battles there is no other race like it. If you want an exhilarating competitive race, a fantastic spectacle, a real sense of achievement and a lasting memory then look no further.
Our 2 day programme has been developed over many years of participating in this race. Join your race skipper and fellow crew on the Friday morning in Hamble for a briefing before a day of training. The focus will be on teamwork and maximising boat speed in preparation for the race. Friday evening the boat will return to Port Hamble for a crew de-brief and dinner ashore.
Saturday is race day and always begins with an early start! After the race you will return to Hamble and for those that wish, head over to Cowes by rib for the obligatory partying!
The Round the Island Race suits anyone who wants to enjoy the excitement and fun of a major event. It is a superb spectacle and everyone should do it at least once! We enter two types of boat. Type 1, typically our X-37, is more performance oriented, competing under IRC with the racers and with hi tech laminate sails. Join the performance boat if are a racer or think you will enjoy the cut and thrust of battling it out on the water.
Type 2, typically our Hanses, Dufours or Jeanneaus, are a little more cruise oriented and compete under ISC which is a looser rating system and generally a bit less hardcore, but still flying spinnakers and plenty of on-the-water action.
Newcomers to yacht racing are welcome to join either type.
Type 1 £480 or 40 points
Type 2 £360 or 30 points
