About this course

The 5-day RYA coastal skipper practical course covers advanced skippering techniques – ideal if you already have a strong sailing and navigational skill base and now want to undertake coastal passages by day and night.

You’ll skipper suitably demanding passages and learn more about pilotage by day and night, boat handling, passage planning, safety and emergency situations. It’s an intensive week – be prepared for some hard work.

By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster™.

RYA Coastal Skipper Course Details

Location : Port Hamble Marina, Hamble, Southampton

Duration : 5 days (You choose the dates)

Student ratio : Our shared courses offer a low student to instructor ratio. Private tuition offers a 1:1 student to instructor ratio or you can bring family and friends at no extra cost.

Minimum age : 17 years

Course prerequisites : +15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours

RYA coastal skipper certificates completed on the UK’s South coast are held in high regard worldwide – it’s often said if you can sail in this area you can sail anywhere.
